Florence Hutchings

b. 1996
Florence Hutchings (b. 1996) graduated with first-class honours from The Slade School of Fine Art, where she also won the Lynn Painter-Stainers scholarship during her studies. Now living and working in Margate, Kent, Hutchings has exhibited widely throughout the UK and abroad.

Her work was first brought to mainstream attention back in 2019 when eight large scale paintings were displayed in an exhibition at Saatchi Gallery. These works remain part of Charles Saatchi’s collection. Hutchings has taken part in several residences, most recently in LA, which culminated in an exhibition at The Cabin. Exhibiting widely throughout Asia, including Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea, Hutchings continues to build international acclaim.

Hutching’s work revolves around the poetry of the everyday, taking elements from her life, be it the studio, the clothes rail in her bedroom or the bathroom sink, and transforming these objects into almost abstract forms, imbibing the everyday with life and vitality. Texture and layers feature heavily, due to the constant repainting in almost all of her works, with collage playing a vital role to the process.
