Bryan Organ's portrait of Diana on show as part of new NPG exhibition

May 31, 2021

Bryan Organ's celebrated portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales, is on show at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits includes more than 150 portraits from across six centuries. Drawn from the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, the exhibition was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Houston, Texas, during 2019, before travelling to Bendigo Art Gallery, Australia.

Organ was commissioned to paint the first official portrait of Diana, which attracted record crowds upon its official unveiling at the National Portrait Gallery in 1981. The painting has remained one of the NPG's most popular paintings ever since.

Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits opens at the National Maritime Museum on 22 May, and runs until 31 October 2021.
