Then & Now
Now fully settled into our new home at 11–12 Pall Mall, The Redfern Gallery continues a new chapter in the heart of St James’s following our move from Cork Street earlier this year.
Over the past two months, the gallery has quickly become part of the rhythm of Pall Mall and the wider St James’s community. Visitors move between nearby galleries and institutions, familiar faces return to discover the new space, and new audiences continue to find us within one of London’s most historic cultural quarters. Coinciding with our arrival on Pall Mall was the unveiling of Banksy’s latest London work just moments away, bringing renewed public attention and energy to the area.
Founded in 1923 at Redfern House on Bond Street and based on Cork Street from 1936 until our recent relocation, The Redfern has remained part of London’s gallery landscape for more than a century. Our move to Pall Mall continues this history while positioning the gallery within an area long associated with art, collecting, and cultural exchange.
Set across two floors, the new gallery allows for a renewed presentation of modern and contemporary art while maintaining the intimacy and character long associated with The Redfern.
Our inaugural exhibition, Then and Now, reflects this moment of continuity and transition. Bringing together works by artists associated with the gallery across generations, the exhibition considers the relationships, histories, and artistic dialogues that have defined The Redfern throughout its history and continue to shape the gallery today.
As we continue our presence on Pall Mall, we look forward to building upon over one hundred years of supporting modern and contemporary art within London’s evolving cultural landscape.
