Erdem Moralioglu discusses "extraordinary" Patrick Procktor watercolours

November 16, 2021

In a recent interview with The Financial Times, leading fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu discussed some of his influences, which included the art of Patrick Procktor.

Moralioglu owns several pieces by Procktor, and told Simon Chilvers: “He had an extraordinary way of drawing. His watercolours, particularly his depiction of men, I always thought were beautiful – quite soft. He had an amazing palette.”

Moralioglu launched his own label in 2005, and has since won acclaim for his distinctive floral prints, which have been worn by the most famous women in the world, such as Michelle Obama, Meghan Markle, Madonna and Nicole Kidman. He was awarded an MBE for services to the fashion industry in 2019.

Earlier this year, the fashion designer Duro Olowu cited another Redfern artist, Eileen Agar, as an influence on his latest collection. He told Vogue that he took inspiration from Agar's work, which he saw during the recent retrospective at the Whitechapel Gallery.
