Sir Elton John (b. Reginald Kenneth Dwight, 1947) is an English singer, songwriter, composer, pianist, and record producer. With a career spanning over five decades, Elton John is one of the best-selling music artists in the world, having sold more than 300 million records.
This iconic portrait was painted after a visit to the Château d’Hérouville near Paris where Elton John was working on the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The image of Marilyn Monroe on his shirt refers to his hit single 'Candle in the Wind', which was written in honour of the screen idol who had died 11 years earlier.
