Sir Richard Dearlove KCMG OBE was Chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) from 1999 to 2004. From 2004 to 2015 he was Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge, who commissioned this portrait in 2016. The painting contains a coded message on a 'one-time pad' note pinned to the wall behind the sitter which can be deciphered using a special key below the canvas.
