Leigh Davis

b. 1976

Leigh Davis is a British artist whose work is rooted in a deep understanding and sensitivity to form and structure. Originally from rural Shropshire, he studied silversmithing and jewellery in Birmingham before completing a multidisciplinary degree in ceramics, wood, metal, and plastics at the University of Wolverhampton.

During the course of the last 25 years since establishing his first studio shortly after graduation, Davis has cultivated a distinctive and evolving abstract language in both his painting and sculpture.

Currently Davis works from a self-built studio in Staffordshire, he creates his bold abstract works echoing natural rhythms, weathered granite, and the quietly monumental landscape and coastline of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Davis has also imparted the same energy and expressive language into a revisited interest in abstract figuration and still life.

His recent works have shifted deeper into abstraction - expressive and bold - they transcend their initial sources of inspiration.

“There’s a point in which the form, colours, surface and composition take on a life of their own,” he says, “and that’s where the real energy and spontaneity lies.”

Davis has exhibited extensively across the UK since 2012 and has held four solo exhibitions with The Nine British Art (2018, 2020, 2021, and 2024). His works are held in private collections both nationally and internationally.
